As I was listening to last Sunday’s message, one key takeaway was the power of crying out. Throughout the Bible, believers have cried out to God in times of distress—time and time again, He has rescued and restored them. While I initially wondered why there is such powerful results from simply crying out to God, the promise is clear:

Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.

Psalm 50:15

Crying out to God is an act of desperation and total concentration—it is a fervent expression of faith in God and trust in His goodness and power to act on your behalf. God wants us to cry out to Him. Whether it is, God why? God where are you? God this is really hard..help. There is so much power when we speak from our hearts [in an honest prayer] and call upon Him to rescue us. 

God understands where we are more than we realise. The book of Psalm serves as a gentle reminder that your pain is not unseen by the Lord. For now, we have his promises to comfort us. They help us trust in the Lord when it is difficult to see the reasonings and the whys. But soon, we will hear with our own ears and feel on our own faces, the gentle hands of God, wiping away our tears:

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

Revelation 21:3-4

Crying Out in Scriptures

Psalm 145:18-19 – The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them. 

Matthew 27:46 – At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

Psalm 34:17 – The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.

1 Samuel 7:9 – So Samuel took a young lamb and offered it to the LORD as a whole burnt offering. He pleaded with the LORD to help Israel, and the LORD answered him.

Psalm 18:6 – But in my distress I cried out to the LORD ; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.
