My TOP 2021 Christian + Worship Songs

A year later, and I’m back with some new Christian/Worship music for 2021. The list is a mix of both traditional and contemporary music. [Please note that I have only listed a handful of songs otherwise this post would be super long.]. So in no particular order…

  1. Gracefully Broken – Tasha Cobbs Leonard

Gracefully broken is the divine assistance, grace and mercy of God upon someone to be repentant over their sin. In this song, Cobbs Leonard acknowledges that without God we cannot function. Her song directs us to lay down the things that are not of God in our life for the things that are of Him to enter—to yearn for more of Christ and show a readiness to receive all His promises for her life.

  1. Gold – Joseph Solomon

Last year was a fire, now I’m gold

Walked out a survivor, out of the storm

The Bible often uses the imagery of gold being refined as a picture of what God does in our lives. Gold, when extracted from the earth, does not look like the gold we find in stores. In fact, it is not always recognisable due to the impurities that mar its appearance. Yet, for the person searching for it, the ugliest lump of gold is of great value, and the potential for beauty is evident. We, as believers, are similar to those lumps of unrefined gold. The sacrifice of God’s son to reconcile us back to a relationship with God shows just how much He values us—even while we are lost and separated from him. So when Solomon sings ‘last year was a fire, now I’m gold’, I was reminded that God is a refiner, seeing me not full of impurity, but full of potential.

  1. Psalm 91 – Sharyn

One of the first posts I shared on my blog was Psalm 91—and it’s overarching theme of God’s protection in the midst of danger. To hear the verses wrapped within this song is truly beautiful. We are reminded that: God is our strong place. He is our castle of defense. He is our stronghold. He is our financial fortress. He is our emotional fortress.

  1. Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace) – Hillsong Worship

For this is what the high and exalted One says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Isaiah 57:15

I love how Broken Vessels borrows text from the book of Isaiah to highlight that God takes pride in using broken vessels, ordinary people, like you and me. It’s because of His amazing grace that our eyes are open to the fact that He wants to use us, to do what only He can do, so that people will see Him. This amazing grace, is as much for you as it was for anybody; when Jesus died on the cross, that it was to give you freedom as much as it was for anyone else.

  1. Eternal Eyes – Daphne Richardson, CalledOut Music

I will wrap my life in Jesus

Set aside what holds me down

The message in just these two lines is so pure. As believers, we are to be focussed on the things of God, wrapping our life around His own, and never turning away from the truth we have found.

  1. Y.O.U Reprise – Shana Wilson-Williams

“All the glory, all the honour, it is due to you”—takes me to Revelations 4:11. In this verse, the twenty-four elders recognise that God deserves glory, honour, and power because He is sovereign. In addition, Genesis 1:1 affirms that He was in the beginning and created the heavens and the earth. Whenever I listen to such powerful lyrics [songs], I am reminded that creation came into existence because it was God’s Will [not an accident]. We owe our existence to God’s creative work—for He is the Creator, and He is worthy to receive our praise.

  1. Make a Way – Jermaine Edwards

You are God of the valley

The mountains and the sea

I will not worry

You will make a way for me

I’m sure I had this song on repeat all summer long. Edwards’ song is Isaiah 43:16 in a nutshell [thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters,]. No matter what predicament, problem or difficulty we face, the Lord has a way. From this verse alone, we see God introduce Himself as the God who makes a way. Despite the difficult situations I found myself in this year, I focussed on God [who makes a way]. By focusing on His Will, I took my eyes off the storm and experienced His all sufficient grace, His enabling power and His sovereign working in my life.
