So, ‘In A New Light’…

A few months ago, I was discussing Faith/Christianity with a friend. I remember feeling disheartened at the time as my relationship with Christ felt so static. Every year I would include some sort of ‘faith goal’ as part of my new year’s resolution, yet it was the one thing I never got round to succeeding in.  So I sat and had an intimate talk with God, poured out my heart and let Him know how I felt. During this talk, God led me to Romans 8:9 – You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. At first I didn’t understand the significance of the verse. After a few days, I realised the way I was measuring/viewing my faith was all wrong. There is no set rule-book or guideline to being the “perfect” Christian. For the longest time, I looked at my faith almost like a checklist [go to church on Sunday *check*, read the bible *check*, complete a study plan *check*]. While all of these things are important, I finally understood a Christian is anyone who has the Spirit of God living within them. Sincerely trusting with salvation and acknowledging Him as Lord. The book of Romans, along with the gospel of John allowed me to view the world in a new light.

If there’s one scripture to sum up the blog, it’s John 8:12 ‘Jesus spoke to the people once more and said “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life”.

Jesus brings God’s presence, protection and guidance. He is the Creator of life, and His life brings light to us. In this new light, I have seen myself as I really am, no longer held bondage by my sin. Jesus lights the path ahead so that I can see how to live.

In A New Light – Let Christ guide your life and you’ll never need to stumble in darkness.
